As Ender grows throughout the book, he is impacted by the people that he meets. Even though the characters seem to play a small role, without them Ender wouldn't be who he was. I don't think that many of us fully realize how much of who we are comes from the people we meet, the friends we have, and the people who we look up to. A lot of our actions have a bigger effect then we realize...
In this book Ender meets new kids at the battle school. Some of them are friendly, most of them aren't. Both types of people help Ender grow as a person. The ones he is friends with teach him to show compassion, and they help see the value of teamwork. The meaner kids teach him the importance of being careful when trusting people, and that if you really want something, you shouldn't let anyone stop you from achieving it.
Not everyone is nice, but still they impacted who Ender grew up to be, and how quickly he grew up.
